Kandinsky Circles

Remember my last post about getting my paint on?

Well, to quote Ms. Britney...

Oops, I did it again.

Except here's a little secret... I kind of like this one better.

My friend Bailey and I went last night to Wine & Canvas and the chosen piece for the evening was Kandinsky Circles. We had a great time sipping drinks and letting our creativity fly. If Spencer isn't careful, our whole house will soon be full of these :)

Kandinsky's got nothin' on this girl!

probably our only opportunity to pose... the instructor was quick!

the level, hammer, and nails came out this morning.

The Un-Official Fall Lineup

So, my pals over at Your Modern Couple have published their own version of their must-see fall lineups.

Being a DVR junkie myself, I felt the need to share my own un-official fall lineup. In some weird way, it might help me justify the insane amount of television hours spent during the months of September through December. No...? Well, here goes anyway.

Adrienne's Un-Official Fall Lineup
in no particular order

Why I watch: Because it seriously convinces me that I missed my calling as a young performer. I'm only lacking the talent... a very minor detail. The show is quirky, off-beat, and full of tunes that make you feel as though it's completely normal to bust out the chorus of "Dancing Queen" in the drive-through car wash. Not speaking from experience

Sons of Anarchy

Why I watch: Haters gonna hate. This show is full of drama, twists, turns, and surprises. It took me a while to get into and appreciate, but once that happened I was hooked. Plus Jax Teller (aka Charlie Hunnam) is massively hot.

Mad Men

Why I watch: Seriously, it's so good. You've probably been told at some point in time "how much you would like it", or so I was told at least 100x before we finally got tired of hearing about it and decided to Netflix it. It was an instant obsession since the first episode and now we are anxiously awaiting the fourth season's release on Netflix so we can finally catch up with the rest of the world following Don Draper's delightfully charismatic life.

The Real Housewives of Whatever

Why I watch: I don't really know. But I do. All of them. And Beverly Hills is my favorite. I feel like they're nicer than the rest...? Episode after episode, I turn off the television shaking my head but like a glutton for punishment continue to come back for more.

Teen Mom

Why I watch: Guilty as charged. But my sentence should be lessened considering this is the last and final season. In fact, it's already over... I may or may not be mourning it a little. I began watching this show as 16 and Pregnant, out of sheer curiosity and four seasons later I am still tuning in. Seeing these young mother's trials and tribulations aired on public television is sad... but makes for good decent television.

College Football

Why I watch: Last but not least, it wouldn't be fall without college football. Since moving to San Diego, we rarely get an opportunity to watch our Alma Mater, but we still tune in every week to see who's playing. On the rare occasion we get to catch a Texas Tech game, we are there. Thanks, and wreck 'em.

That pretty much sums it up, and I still have room on the DVR :) What are your can't-miss fall shows?

wine & canvas

Last night, I went to a "Wine & Canvas" party hosted at one of the local wine bars in North Park.
You Texans may know of "Painting with a Twist"--it's the same thing.

If you're not familiar, how these booze fests social events operate, it's something like this.
You first go online and look at the calendar of different canvases available to paint. There is a new canvas and a new location each week night. The locations consist of local business who "host" the event--i.e. have a back room or a large party room. There are approximately 30 seats per class and one instructor who takes you step by step through painting the canvas, and at the end you end up with your own piece of artwork to take home. There is, of course, alcoholic beverages available to help "inspire" your creativity.

Initially, my friend Bailey and I bought a LivingSocial deal with the intent of going together. We narrowed down the canvases we wanted to paint to two, and ultimately one. She and I will go next week Monday and paint together. However, I really liked the other one so much I decided to go for it on my own.

I will spare you the hilariously awkward details of how this evening progressed, and skip right to the before and afters. Let's just say that my OCD coupled with the word vomit I chronically suffer from made for an interesting evening for all.

The first picture shows my fresh, clean canvas and the second... my finished piece. I must admit... I like the way it turned out. I wasn't sure what to expect, but am pleased with the outcome. Hoping for the same results next week!

the big 2-7

I can't believe I'm 27.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of my new age is 'The 27 Club'.
You know the one... the infamous "club" whose membership includes famous musicians who died at the ripe age of 27.

I'm weirdly morbid.

My next thing that came to mind on the morning of my birthday was...

This thought was not only happier, but was not as fleeting as the first. I thought long and hard about it.

I started my day with a trip to Starbucks for the first pumpkin spice latte of the season. It was well worth the wait, and I welcomed it back with open lips. I had to work for a few hours, but the trip to Sprinkles Cupcakes afterward took the sting away for a bit.

Before continuing, I should just take the opportunity to say that typically on my birthday I am responsible for my own calorie-laden treats. My boyfriend, although wonderful a man he is, does not see the magic and wonder of sweets in the same way that I do. It's such a shame. For the last several months, he has been the healthy disciplinary in our house. Don't even try to hide that half-eaten Hershey's Dark Chocolate bar underneath the cinnamon and nutmeg in the spice drawer...

He will find it.

I knew there was no way I was going to get anything out him when he suggested that I "treat myself to a cake pop"when I stop at Starbucks.

A cake pop...? Psssshhhh...
"A" would insinuate ONE and it's my birthday for crying out loud!

The best I was going to get out of him was an apple and a jar of peanut butter. I had to take matters into my own hands.

I pulled up to the sweet, sweet sight of world-famous Sprinkles Cupcakes. After driving around for a solid 10 minutes looking for a parking spot, I retreated to the next shopping center over. From there, I hoofed it in 5" heels, across lot after lot, stood in line for at least 15 minutes, and trekked back to my car, careful to not let the detectible dark chocolate cupcake tip over. Can't be loosing precious icing to the side of the bag!

I do realize that most people would have called it quits at the first obstacle in this little adventure, but I'm no quitter.
I'm determined like that.

I arrived home and enjoyed my delicious belgium dark chocolate cake with bittersweet chocolate frosting (toothache, much?) while opening a variety of birthday gifts and cards. I received so many wonderful messages throughout the day and felt very special and incredibly blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life!

When Spencer got home, he presented me with a sweet card and the IOU I already knew about... our wine country weekend! We tried to plan our getaway for this weekend, but everywhere was already booked so we're holding out for next month.

We topped off the evening with some shopping and a delicious dinner at one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants. All in all.. a wonderful birthday!

I am looking forward to new journeys and life adventures in the next year. Cheers!

Happy Fall, Y'all!!

It's here, friends!

F A L L

That's right! It may be 80 degrees and hot where I live, and a gajillion and sweltering where you live but the actual season of fall is upon us! There is but one indicator of this seasonal change, and we all know what it is.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte, duh.

I mean, there's also that whole football thing, too...

While I haven't yet enjoyed my creamy, delicious, sweet pastry baked-tasting bit of morning bliss YET this season, it doesn't mean that I won't. I am holding out for Friday as that seems like an appropriate way to ease into the weekend.

Today, in celebration of the return of this most wonderful season, I put out my two ceramic pumpkins fabulous fall display and lit the house up with seasonal scents. Spencer and I have really been enjoying all of the wonderful new smells available at Bath and Body Works. Our current favorite is Leaves, but really we haven't had a bad one yet. In fact, we've been enjoying it so much we are sending a Leaves mini candle to a couple of our favorite people :) Happy fall, y'all!

special delivery!

In other news...

1.) I made these and they were awesome. Maybe even a little better than awesome, as you can tell from the half-eaten baking dish in the picture below. I opted out of using the PB cups and used two XL bars of Hersey's Symphony Milk Chocolate instead. Either way, you can't go wrong. Do yourself a favor and move these to priority status on your to-do list. Do it in celebration of fall.

2.) The summer months have gone and my patio is looking dead. All except for this little guy who continues to make me smile! His name is Chester. I don't know why. I also don't know why it's a he?

We are planning a trip up to wine country in the next couple of months. Thinking of starting in Temecula and working our way up. Has anyone been? If so, recommendations are welcome! We have received several so far, but could use any first-hand advice you've got!

That's all from me. Have a quick work week!

sweet home sweet

We have officially been in our sparkly new condo for three months and I have yet to post any pictures. I keep waiting for a time when it will be complete, and I could stage it appropriately and all would be picture perfect.

Well, that day may never come.

We are constantly adding new pieces, taking things away, re-arranging and re-organizing. It is a work in progress.

The style of our condo is not one that really "fits" either of us, despite our love of the location and community. Spencer tends to lean toward a woodsy craftsman  style while I like the design to be clean, minimal. It is a continual challenge every time we shop for something new. Blending our two styles has been the most difficult challenge thus far in my little design career, but so far we have made it out unscathed and with no little arguing.

We live in a two bedroom / two bathroom ground level condominium that opens onto a community putting green (this surely had NO bearing on our decision). While we technically still live in San Diego proper, we are just on the cusp of Del Mar. We are able to walk to several different restaurants, two grocery stores, Starbucks, nail / hair salons, a bookstore, a brewery, a chocolatier, several clothing stores and a movie theatre among other things. We generally have a more difficult time deciding where to go than having a lack of places to go and this was the main reason we chose this location.

Without further ado, here are a few pictures of our little home. It's cheery and colorful (despite my original wishes... but I must admit it's growing on me). It's all about the compromise!

My apologies for the photo quality... some of them turned out a bit grainy with distorted color. Of course, I didn't have an opportunity to photo stage them, either. Just a glimpse into what we see everyday :)
